I saw someone with a thread about installing Virtualbox on Mint - haven't read it yet. My next step was going to be to follow this tutorial (OMG, it really is called Repair Install - I thought there would be some voodoo Linux term for it): Picked Start Linux Mint and it booted normally again. Since I was there, I thought I would explore and do Integrity Check - found 1 error and corrected, rebooted ![]() It booted to the iso, just as it would as if I was doing a new install So I selected from VirtualBox -> Devices -> Optical Drives -> Choose a Disk File -> and chose my Mint iso Tried normal start and then both advanced options choices (the advanced option choices were not verbose - it basically just listed the Linux kernel version twice) So, I powered down the VM and it gave me an Advanced options choice, but neither option did much except go back to the ash shell and an (initramfs) prompt so I restarted the VM, and it booted to an ash (yes, ash) shell and said I should run fsck because there was no longer a root directory on /sda1. But I wanted to see if I could actually repair a Linux install in the year 2020. Normally, I would just delete the VM and start over from scratch. ![]() ![]() No personal files or anything worth saving.īut, since I upgraded Windows 10 to 2004, the Mint Software Manager crashes whenever I launch it. I am running Linux Mint in a VM in VirtualBox on a Windows machine. This started as a question thread, but morphed into a solution in case anyone runs into this.
